Staff Minister - John L. Metzger

ST. PAUL WEEKLY SCWIM
July 27, 2010

“For the waywardness of the simple will kill them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them; but whoever listens to me will live in safety and be at ease, without fear of harm”  Prov. 1:32-33
Words mean things.  I am certain that you have heard that before.  Well, what about the word “simple”?  Are you simple?  In the eyes and ears of the world today, if you proclaim Jesus as your Savior . . . you are the very definition of simple.  You are simple-minded according to their definition of simple.  You are weak-minded and easily manipulated or mush-brained.  Educated and enlightened means that any God is good enough because any way to heaven is any way that people choose.   Or Educated and enlightened means that you should acknowledge that there is no god at all.  In God’s eyes and ears simple are those who refuse to acknowledge God as Creator and Savior of the world.  In God’s eyes “simple” is the very definition of those who reject Him for their own philosophies and beliefs.  Let the word simple go right in one ear and out the other.  And let God’s assurance that His Word is truth and His love is certain and His promises are eternal free you from harm, danger and fear.  You are wiser than the top professor in the world.  You are more enlightened than the top guru of the newest religious philosophy.  And you have the greatest degree ever awarded – that of child of God.  It’s that simple.

But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD."   Joshua 24:15
